In July 2018, Mill Yard in Bury seen the former Barnbrook Warehouse transformed into 5 modern contemporary apartments with 23 ensuite units, communal ground floor space, and spacious kitchen and living areas. Converting this industrial relic into residential space, like any project, wasn't easy - however we managed to officially complete the works in April 2019, after just 9 months of graft, both on-site and in the office.
Floors were ripped up, windows ripped out, partition walls put in, external work was done to enhance the building's appeal, and many more crucial installations all became the core of reintroducing this enigma of a building back into the community. Despite efforts to dig up the history of the building in order to paint a picture, it has unfortunately remained largely anonymous to the Bury community throughout it's history. It apparently once served as a warehouse and storage space, but this was the extent of the research. After completion of the conversion, the Barnbrook Building was originally let to professional tenants, before finally being put on the market in 2022.
In late 2022, we sold Barnbrooke for 1.2 million and it was put into the hands of another investor who recognized the potential of the building. The investor not only acquired the property but also took on the responsibility of managing and tenanting the building, ensuring its continued community contribution.
Historically you wouldn't have been able to find the building on a map, but now the Barnbrook Building breathes new life in the form of a modern aesthetic and space. Just a stones throw from the local Bury College & University Centre for residential students, and immediately next door to Bury's vibrant town centre, which is host to bars, clubs, restaurants and markets. It feels this property now has many more generations left in it, after some much needed TLC from DBR. More photos
